‘Wonder Woman’ Fan Trailer Shows Hollywood How It’s Done

While Warner Bros. can’t seem to get a ‘Wonder Woman‘ movie off the ground (despite a script once written by current Marvel godfather Joss Whedon, himself), some fans have taken matters into their own hands. Sam Balcomb spent the majority of 2013 creating this ‘Wonder Woman’ fan trailer, hoping to show Hollywood that it can, and should, be done.

Few people will mistake the above for the real thing (the fight scenes are poorly choreographed, way too much slow motion and this Wonder Woman seems to have trouble throwing a spear), but it does work very well as a proof-of-concept type trailer. It doesn’t need to look perfect, it just needs to give a general idea of where you’re going.

While the stuff on Earth is pretty pedestrian (Wonder Woman beats up some masked thugs with guns, hardly a worthwhile use of her time), we really dug the look and feel of Themyscira. It reminds us of a female-centric version of ‘Thor‘ (and, honestly, in that movie, the stuff in Asgard was much better than the Earth stuff too).

Here’s what Balcomb had to say about making the film:

Firstly, thanks for watching. Whether you like, or dislike, our live action interpretation of Diana of Themyscira, Wonder Woman, born of clay, I think (quite a few of) you will agree she is a character just as vital and crucial to our understanding of humanity as any other superhero… if not more so.

We spent the majority of 2013 working on this — the look, the feel, the aspects we most wanted to portray. It’s a scant two and half minutes, but in the end, it’s one hundred and fifty seconds of pure fantasy, where I get to consider the two sides of my favorite warrior: a crusader in man’s world, and a paragon of virtue told through Greek mythology.

The actress on-screen is Rileah Vanderbilt, who you may have seen previously in the horror films ‘Frozen’ or ‘Hatchet.’

So, what do you think? Did you like this vision for a ‘Wonder Woman’ movie and, if not, what would you do differently? Who do you think would make the perfect Wonder Woman in a movie?
