First, a quick history: last year, Hugh Jackman himself said he would be in both X-Men: Apocalypse and The Wolverine 3. Then the actor said he would love to play Wolverine until he dies, if Fox would let him (pretty sure they would). And then he said The Wolverine 3 would be his final appearance as the clawed mutant hero, and he began acting coy about additional appearances in interviews. So, is he in X-Men: Apocalypse or not? We might have a legitimate answer now.

Heroic Hollywood picked up this Instagram post from a leather goods company (of all things, right?) called Kika NY, which seems to confirm that Jackman will appear in Apocalypse. The company has been asked by Fox to make a custom leather duffle bag for Wolverine in the film.

Whether Jackman will merely be making a cameo or have a full part in the film remains unclear. At the end of X-Men: Days of Future Past, we saw Wolverine being lifted out of the water in Washington, D.C. by Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique, posing as William Stryker. Days of Future Past basically rewrote X-Men history, negating the original trilogy, thus Wolverine’s claws were never covered in Adamantium.

We know that Apocalypse is set to focus on the younger First Class cast, with Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult and James McAvoy returning to reprise their roles, alongside Oscar Isaac’s Apocalypse, Sophie Turner’s Jean Grey, Tye Sheridan’s Scott Summers, Alexandra Shipp’s Storm, and more.

X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters on May 27, 2016, followed by The Wolverine 3 on March 3, 2017.
