Alec Baldwin’s SNL Trump May Expand to ‘Other Venues’ Outside Show
The initial shock of Donald Trump’s election left it unclear if SNL would continually call on Alec Baldwin for such an extended commitment, but the 30 Rock alum and ranking host has soldiered on, much to the real Trump’s enjoyable chagrin. Baldwin may even follow in Will Ferrell’s “Dubya” footsteps, apparently taking the role to “other venues.”
Baldwin implied as much in an interview with ABC News, adding that he’d continue performing the SNL role whenever possible, his own schedule permitting. The actor didn’t specify where else he might take the impression, only offering:
I’m gonna do [Saturday Night Live] as much as I can. And there’s discussions about other venues we might pursue to further express our gratitude and admiration for the Trump administration.
Trump himself has repeatedly derided the impersonation as “mean-spirited,” taking a starkly antagonistic role with the New York institution that (dubiously) invited him to host last year. In the meantime, we’d certainly expect to see the character again with SNL’s 2017 return this coming weekend (hosted by Rogue One star Felicity Jones) to say nothing of Aziz Ansari’s debut the following week, just one day after the inauguration.
You know, assuming we make it that far. Watch the SNL return promos in the meantime, and stay tuned.
