Ang Lee has been honored with the Best Director award at the 2013 Oscars ceremony.

Ben Affleck has been snagging awards left and right for ‘Argo,’ including Best Director at the Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild. But during Hollywood’s biggest night, Affleck was not in fact nominated for this particular category, and with him out of the way, Steven Spielberg seemed like the clear frontrunner.

However, in the end, Ang Lee came out on top, in front of not only Spielberg, but also Benh Zeitlin for ‘Beasts of the Southern Wild,’ Michael Haneke for ‘Amour’ and David O. Russell for ‘Silver Linings Playbook.’

'Life of Pi' is based off the Yann Martel novel of the same name, following a young boy who boards a boat with his family to transport their zoo. However, a freak storm hits, stranding him in the middle of the ocean on a raft with a hungry tiger. Ang Lee previously won the Oscar for Best Director for 'Brokeback Mountain' in 2005.
