Anna Kendrick is an academy award nominee (for 'Up in the Air'), though not a household name. But if 'Pitch Perfect' is a hit, she will be. Kendrick leads a group of a cappella singers in what looks to be a mash-up of 'Glee' and 'Bring it On.' Still, it could be reasonably entertaining.

This is also something of a test for Rebel Wilson. She came off well in 'Bridesmaids' in a small part, but her appearance in that must have raised her status enough to be the main comic support in this movie. We have to say, she got more laughs out of us in this trailer than she did in 'Bridesmaids.'

Films like this are about alchemy, as the premise is shopworn as all get out and you can see it going by the numbers. But this trailer has some zip, and it looks like the girls actually have pipes. There's nothing wrong with enjoying a film like this, or 'Bring it On' for that matter, if they're done right, and hopefully director Jason Moore (who has helmed some TV, but is best known for directing 'Avenue Q' on the stage) delivers something familiar but fun. We'll know for sure when the film hits theaters October 5, and hopefully it's a pleasure (guilty or otherwise).
