Michael Fassbender Jumps Off More Buildings in New ‘Assassin’s Creed’ Trailer
We learned earlier this year that Assassin’s Creed would take place in the present more than the past, and the latest trailer gives a better look at that ratio.
Director Justin Kurzel’s adaptation of the video game finds Michael Fassbender’s Callum Lynch who’s able to travel back in time through an advanced genetics technology. The latest trailer shows Callum in the present day being plugged to travel back into his ancestral past.
The assassin sequences are full of more jumping off buildings, landing atop buildings, back flips, and slicing people up with knives. Those have a crisp visual style similar to Kurzel’s Macbeth, while the present scenes look like any other sterile dystopian future. The assassin sequences are some of the best looking parts of the new trailer, so it’s too bad the majority of the film will be spent in the present. Here’s the full synopsis:
Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.
Assassin’s Creed also stars Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleason, Charlotte Rampling, and Michael K. Williams. The film hits theaters December 25. Check out the poster below:
