‘Big Eyes’ Trailer: Tim Burton Opens the Windows to Amy Adams’ Soul
The first footage of director Tim Burton's biopic of artist Margaret Keane has arrived with the 'Big Eyes' trailer, which first premiered on Yahoo Movies. As the Oscar race continues to heat up and more films reveal footage to the public, could Amy Adams' leading performance earn her more awards attention?
As the 'Big Eyes' trailer depicts, the film follows the life of Margaret, a talented painter with that classic Southern charm. When she meets her future husband Walter, played by 'Django Unchained' star Christoph Waltz, she is instantly taken by his charm and is swept up by their quickly budding romance. However, things take a turn when Mr. Keane starts shopping around his wife's art and taking credit for her work, all the while creating a fast-spreading trend.
"It's like a mirage. From a distance you look like a painter, but up close there's not much there," says Adams' Margaret.
'Big Eyes' seems to work on many levels -- a biopic of the artist who first achieved mass-market success in the 1950s, and a film about the suppression of women. It seems to have many elements that the Academy is always looking for, so perhaps the film's late December release will do well in keeping it fresh on their minds. Though, there are other major releases, like the Reese Witherspoon-led 'Wild,' Paul Thomas Anderson's 'Inherent Vice,' and the intriguing 'A Most Violent Year,' populating the month.
'Big Eyes' will hit theaters on December 25.
