Like Peter Capaldi before, there’s no reason Doctor Who should wait until Christmas for the next Time Lord regeneration. A new teaser reveals that “Thirteen” will reveal him or herself on Sunday, July 16, after a nice game of tennis.

The BBC confirms that its next Doctor Who star will be announced this coming Sunday, after the Wimbledon Men’s Final. The announcement was made with a teaser showing “13” all over the world, along with a mysterious key. Said actor will begin their tenure as The Doctor with this year’s Christmas special, following the recent Season 10 finale that saw Capaldi’s Twelve attempting to stave off his own regeneration. The special will also feature Game of Thrones star David Bradley playing the first Doctor, just as he’d portrayed actor William Hartnell in a BBC movie about the series.

Our new Doctor will also begin Season 11 in spring 2018 under new showrunner Chris Chibnall, replacing the departed Steven Moffat. Presumably, a new companion will also replace Pearl Mackie’s Bill.

We’ll see whether Doctor Who finally takes the plunge with a new vision for 13, so stay tuned for more on Sunday’s big announcement.
