'Doctor Who's seventh season will come to its conclusion this Saturday with the airing of climactic closer "The Name of the Doctor," while 2013 will also see the much-discussed 50th Anniversary Special, and a Christmas special to boot, but will series star Matt Smith call it quits at the end of the year? A new report claims that Smith will stay on through the 8th season in 2014, so find out the latest on 'Doctor Who's future inside!

2013 has proven an exciting year for 'Doctor Who' fans, or Whovians, but one that could easily end in disappointment given the constantly-swirling rumors of series star Matt Smith's departure. There may be cause for celebration however, as UK publication The Sun learned from Smith himself he intends to remain with the series through an eighth season in 2014!

I’m on a break for a couple of months while I’m in Detroit making How To Catch A Monster. We come back and shoot the Christmas special over the summer, then we go on to the next series, which will either start filming at the end of this year or at the start of 2014.

We'd be hard pressed to think Smith would flat-out lie to cover any potential changes stemming from tomorrow's season finale, or the upcoming 50th anniversary and Christmas specials, but 'Doctor Who' has taught us time and again that things can get awfully complicated in the storytelling.

Well, what say you? Are you happy to have Matt Smith keep on as the Doctor for another season? What the latest trailer for tomorrow's "The Name of the Doctor" and give us your predictions in the comments!
