Doctor Who’s 2015 Christmas Special did well to tide us over after the Season 8 finale, but Season 9 seems an eternity away for our 12th Time Lord’s return. Bridge the gap with our first details and taste of the two-part Season 9 premiere, which confirms a certain Master-full woman will return to menace Peter Capaldi once more!

Per the BBC’s official announcement, Michelle Gomez will appear in the two-part season premiere “The Magician’s Apprentice” and “The Witch’s Familiar,” written by showrunner Steven Moffat and directed by Hettie Macdonald. Not only that, but Jemma Redgrave will return to the new season’s guest cast, along with premiere guest stars Kelly Hunter, Clare Higgins and Jaye Griffiths.

Had enough? Additional stars of the new season will include Daniel Hoffmann-Gill, Jami Reid-Quarrell, Aaron Neil, India Ria Amarteifio, Joey Price, Dasharn Anderson, Harki Bhambra and Demi Papaminas. Meanwhile, says Gomez of Missy’s return, following the “Death in Heaven” season finale:

Things have been a little beige since I left Missy behind, so I’m delighted to be putting my lippie back on. I’m positively dying to see The Doctor again!

Adds Moffat:

Everybody hide – Michelle Gomez as Missy was an instant hit last year, so she’s straight back to plague the Doctor and Clara in the series opener. But what brings her back into their lives is the last thing they’d expect.

Blue as we are to have to wait until fall, is the ninth season of Doctor Who shaping up to be its most villainous yet? Has Peter Capaldi grown into the role enough? Will Clara stick around for another year, while we’re at it?
