Check Out These Early Costume Designs for DC’s Flash and Cyborg
I’ve always enjoyed seeing movie costume designs that did not make the cut. So many of these first drafts at superhero costumes are completely different from the final product; sometimes I find I even enjoy the out-of-left-field designs for characters like Batman and Superman more than the ones that ended up in the movies. Either way, these designs shine a light on the revision process that takes places as the film crew hones in on the final look for these iconic characters.
Earlier this week, Hollywood costume and creature design shop Ironhead Studio shared a few designs for Flash and Cyborg that didn’t quite make the cut. According to reports (via Flickering Myth), the Flash costume was originally considered for the nightmare dream sequence in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice while the Cyborg costume is just an alternate version of what we will see in Justice League.
While both designs are certainly interesting, for my money, the DC Cinematic Universe could stand to get over its fascination with bulky power suits and bring back a little bit more speed and agility to its fight sequences. The warehouse scene in Batman v Superman, for example, was a nod to the brawler-meets-martial arts fight scenes we’ve come to expect from a Batman movie. The less Zack Snyder and company gravitate towards human-sized Jaegers, the better the movies will be as a result.
Here is the full synopsis for Justice League courtesy of the film’s IMDb page:
Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes — Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash — it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
Justice League will hit theaters on November 17, 2017.
