Aside from its current revival fervor, FOX hasn’t yet placed an official order for more 24, particularly after news that Kiefer Sutherland’s Jack Bauer wouldn’t take part. New 24 may prove even less familiar to fans however, eschewing any known characters for a “total reset.”

Previously, FOX began work with Live Another Day vets Manny Coto and Evan Katz to develop a new iteration of 24 with a younger male terrorist hunter, paired with and older, seasoned female partner. Sutherland himself confirmed a future series would leave Jack Bauer off the clock however, the actor having only intended to return for a single season.

According to FOX boss Gary Newman (Via EW), producers have Sutherland’s blessing to press on with a new cast, but more surprising is that Newman doesn’t expect any familiar 24 faces to sign on:

Obviously we would love to have Kiefer [Sutherland] and we went to him first. It isn’t something he wants to do at this point, but he encouraged us to continue and look for a way to bring the show back … Honestly I don’t know whether we’ll see any old characters or not. It would not surprise me if it’s a total reset in terms of the characters.

24’s eight-season run saw plenty of turnover among the cast, though it would seem at least odd of FOX to greenlight a new iteration based on name and format alone. Who knows, maybe we could have Elisha Cuthbert’s Kim Bauer return, leading a pack of trained cougars! You’re welcome, FOX. Please make my check out to “Pizza.”

We’ll see what else shakes out, but should FOX attempt a “total reset” of 24, without any original characters?
