Here’s Your New Riggs for FOX’s ‘Lethal Weapon’ TV Series
Seeing as we’re going to ride this train of rebooting old movies for TV until kingdom come, FOX’s Lethal Weapon keeps right on chuggin’. Following the announcement of Damon Wayans’ Murtaugh, and a number since, Rectify star Clayne Crawford has joined the Lethal Weapon LAPD as our new Martin Riggs.
This time around, Riggs is envisioned as a former Navy SEAL and Texas cop suffering the loss of his wife and baby, as he tries to start anew by moving to Los Angeles and working for the LAPD, where he meets and ends up partnered with Murtaugh. Other recent additions include Fast and Furious franchise star Jordana Brewster, Golden Brooks and Mad man Kevin Rahm.
So reads FOX’s Lethal Weapon pilot synopsis, which doesn’t change very much about the central dynamic:
When Texas cop and former Navy SEAL Martin Riggs (not yet cast) suffers the loss of his wife and baby, he moves to Los Angeles to start anew. There, he gets partnered with LAPD detective Roger Murtaugh (Wayans), who, having recently suffered a ‘minor’ heart attack, must avoid any stress in his life.
Terminator: Salvation and frequent TV director McG will handle duties on the pilot episode, with Chuck alum Matt Miller acting as showrunner. The original Lethal Weapon trailer, for reference:
