Though filming is under way, there was one big final piece missing from the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' puzzle: who would voice Rocket Raccoon. And now it appears that Bradley Cooper is the man who will take on the role.

This comes to us from El Mayimbe over at Latino Review, who notes that an offer just went out to Cooper, so nothing's written in stone yet. Early word hinted that they might go with a comedian-type (Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler were mentioned), and while Cooper has done comedy, he's also now an Oscar nominee, which makes him slightly classier.

Whether this is true or not, it feels right as it adds more star power to a project that's already very odd. And while Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, and Dave Bautista might be perfect for their roles, only Saldana has some name value. This decision falls in line with the other late casting announcement of Vin Diesel as Groot. In both cases they're getting a name actor to add maximum value to the movie for the least amount of work.

We'll see if Cooper takes the part, but regardless 'Guardians of the Galaxy' is scheduled to hit theaters August 1, 2014.
