By now you know it’s best to expect the unexpected when it comes to Steven Soderbergh, who recently emerged from semi-retirement (or Not Actual Retirement At All) to direct his first feature film since 2012. Even still, you probably never would have guessed that his latest project would star Adam Driver, Seth MacFarlane and Katherine Heigl — okay, you might have guessed Driver since that guy is pretty much everywhere right now. But would you have predicted the casting of Hilary Swank? Probably not.

According to Deadline, Swank is the latest to join the cast of Logan Lucky, which centers on two brothers who try to pull off an ambitious heist during a NASCAR event. Described as a “hillbilly heist” film, Soderbergh’s latest stars Adam Driver, Channing Tatum, Daniel Craig, Katherine Heigl, Seth MacFarlane and Riley Keough — a strange assembly of talent if there ever was one.

The Playlist adds that Katherine Waterston, who stars in the upcoming Alien: Covenant, has also joined the cast of Logan Lucky.

But Heigl and Swank’s casting is of particular note, given that the former is usually dismissed as a TV and rom-com actor and the latter is associated with melodramatic fare (even though Swank has two Oscars). They’re both very talented women, and I’m eager to see them paired with a director like Soderbergh, who could utilize those talents in new and interesting ways.

Not much else is known about the project, though it recently began filming in Charlotte, North Carolina during a NASCAR event. Swank can be seen next in The One Percent, an upcoming TV series created by Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu.
