For as much as we anticipate 'How I Met Your Mother' season 8 before its September 24 debut, we still don't actually know if the coming year for Ted, Barney, Robin, Marshall and Lily will be the last.  CBS continue trying to hammer out deals for a potential ninth season, yet in the meantime the series' writers and producers have no choice but to eye the new season as the last.  And what better way to ring in the final year than with yet another returning guest star?  Who's scooting in for season 8?

According to the actor's own Twitter, actor David Burtka is on track to return for the eighth, and potentially final season of CBS' Monday lead-off hit 'How I Met Your Mother,' beginning October 8.  In addition to being series star Neil Patrick Harris' real-life partner, Burtka has recurred throughout the show's prior seven seasons as "Scooter," high school love interest to Alyson Hannigan's Lily Aldrin.

No details are yet known of Scooter's return, but Burtka joins an expanding list of prior guest stars to return for the eighth season, including ‘Breaking Bad’s Bob Odenkirk,  ‘True Blood‘s Joe Manganiello as Marshall’s law-school friend Brad, Ashley Williams as Ted’s one-time love interest Victoria, and ‘Battlestar Galactica’ vet Michael Trucco as Robin’s previously unnamed crush.  Former ‘Reno 911!’ star Thomas Lennon will appear as Klaus, the man Victoria left at the altar for Ted in season 7 finale “The Magician’s Code.”
