It’s going to be pretty hard to top the delightful, evil antics of filmmaker Werner Herzog, whose turn as the villain in Jack Reacher was absolutely wonderful, to say the least. And maybe Jack Reacher 2 director Ed Zwick is well-aware of the impossibility of topping Herzog — instead of trying to one-up the first film, Zwick has turned his attention to the small screen in selecting Tom Cruise’s foil for the upcoming sequel.

Per Variety, Patrick Heusinger has been cast as the villain in Jack Reacher 2 following his breakout role on Bravo’s Girlfriend’s Guide to Divorce (which is an actual television show, not a reality show, in case you were concerned). You may have also seen Heusinger in films like Black Swan and Frances Ha, in which he had supporting roles.

Heusinger will face off against Tom Cruise, who is reprising his role as eponymous protagonist Jack Reacher in the highly-anticipated sequel, which begins filming this fall. Zwick is directing the film, which he co-wrote with Marshall Herskovitz based on an original draft by Richard Wenk.

Cruise will also be joined this time around by Cobie Smulders and Heroes Reborn star Danika Yarosh, the latter of whom will play Reacher’s (possible) daughter. Jack Reacher 2 is based on the Lee Childs novel Never Go Back, which is described as follows:

Former military cop Jack Reacher makes it all the way from snowbound South Dakota to his destination in northeastern Virginia, near Washington, D.C.: the headquarters of his old unit, the 110th MP. The old stone building is the closest thing to a home he ever had. Reacher is there to meet — in person — the new commanding officer, Major Susan Turner, so far just a warm, intriguing voice on the phone. But it isn’t Turner behind the CO’s desk. And Reacher is hit with two pieces of shocking news, one with serious criminal consequences, and one too personal even to think about.

Jack Reacher 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on October 1, 2016.
