In other Jeremy Renner news, following the announcement that he’ll officially reunite with some of his Avengers pals for Captain America: Civil War, Renner has signed on for another reunion: The actor will team up with his American Hustle co-star Amy Adams for the upcoming sci-fi thriller Story of Your Life, set to be helmed by Denis Villeneuve, the acclaimed director of Prisoners.

According to THR, Renner has joined the cast of Story of Your Life opposite lead actor Amy Adams. The film, written by Eric Heisserer (The Thing remake, Hours) and based on the short story by Ted Chiang, begins as alien spaceships land all over the world. Adams plays a highly skilled linguist who is hired by the military to try and interpret the alien language and figure out whether they come in peace or as a threat. As she becomes more attuned to their language, the linguist begins having bizarre flashbacks which offer clues as to why the aliens have really arrived here.

Renner has signed on to play a physics professor assigned to aid Adams’ attempts to communicate with the aliens.

The film is being directed by Denis Villeneuve, who helmed last year’s superb indie thriller Enemy, as well as the more prominent dramatic thriller Prisoners—both featuring excellent performances from Jake Gyllenhaal. It was recently announced that Villeneuve will also direct the upcoming Blade Runner sequel, based on a script by Ridley Scott and Hampton Fancher, who co-wrote the original.

Villeneuve will begin production on Blade Runner 2 after completing Story of Your Life. Meanwhile, Renner appears next in Avengers: Age of Ultron, which hits theaters on May 1, and has signed on for Captain America: Civil War, hitting theaters on May 6, 2016.
