We weren’t really interested in a Baywatch movie until Dwayne Johnson got involved — then again, Johnson’s name can guarantee our interest in just about anything. The upcoming big screen version of the classic ’90s TV series is also set to star Zac Efron, and has recently begun its search for some leading ladies. Paramount has reportedly tested a handful of actresses, including one that has some experience working with The Rock already.

Deadline reports that Paramount has tested Alexandra Daddario, Ashley Benson (Pretty Little Liars), Nina Dobrev (The Vampire Diaries), Alexandra Shipp (X-Men: Apocalypse), Shelley Henning (Teen Wolf), Bianca Santos (The Duff) and Denyse Tontz (Big Time Rush) for potential leading roles opposite Johnson and Efron in the Baywatch movie.

Daddario previously appeared with Johnson in San Andreas, so not only does she have a working familiarity with the actor, but she’s got some action chops under her belt. As you’ll note, several of the other actresses testing for a leading role in the film come from teen / YA properties, which means they could help attract a younger demographic unfamiliar with the source material.

That’s also a fairly diverse list of women in terms of age and race, and it’s unclear if Paramount is testing all of these actresses for more than one part.

Baywatch will be directed by Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses) and centers on Johnson’s morally upright, rule-abiding lifeguard, who teams up with a rebellious young newcomer to stop an oil tycoon from wreaking environmental havoc on their beloved beach. The film heads into production early next year.
