This week CBS announced plans for a MacGyver reboot TV show, featuring a younger version of the character portrayed by Richard Dean Anderson on the classic series. James Wan — who was previously attached to direct a MacGyver film — will direct the pilot, but just in case that doesn’t work out, Lionsgate has announced that they’re (still) developing a MacGyver movie.

A MacGyver film has been in some stage of development for several years now, with Wan attached to direct at one point not so long ago. Per Variety, Lionsgate’s recent investors call revealed that the studio is still developing a film based on the classic series — which is really only news because CBS announced a pilot order for their reboot series this week.

21 Jump Street producer Neal Moritz and original series creator Lee David Zlotoff will produce the MacGyver feature film, but…that’s about all that’s happening with the movie version as of now. Lionsgate has yet to secure a director or an official script, but with CBS moving ahead with their new TV reboot, the film studio may need to cobble something together sooner rather than later. Maybe they can take a tip from MacGyver himself and see what they can make out of whatever movie leftovers are just laying around.

Meanwhile, we’re still waiting on that MacGruber sequel.
