Jennifer Lawrence and Darren Aronofsky Team Up in First ‘mother!’ Teaser
I don‘t particularly know what is going on in this first teaser for mother! It’s 30 seconds of Jennifer Lawrence wandering around a house while a series of voices (including Javier Bardem) are heard on the soundtrack. But, really, I don’t need to know very much. Jennifer Lawrence plus writer/director Darren Aronofsky is basically enough for me. Aronofsky previously directed Pi, Requiem for a Dream, and Black Swan; few directors have a better handle on peculiar, edgy psychological horror. And now he’s working with Jennifer Lawrence, one of the greatest young actors of her generation. It’s a formidable pair, and an automatic must-watch.
If you require more information, Paramount Pictures has provided a handy tagline (“Some fears are beyond conception”) and official synopsis along with this brief first teaser:
A couple's relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence. From filmmaker Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan, Requiem for a Dream), mother! stars Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem, Ed Harris and Michelle Pfeiffer in this riveting psychological thriller about love, devotion and sacrifice.
That’s a basic plot framework, but I still have lots of questions. Who is the couple? Who are the guests? Who is the mother? Why are we not capitalizing her name? Perhaps we will get more information when the first full trailer for mother! appears online on August 8. If not, the film itself opens in theaters on September 15.
