NECA Calls Lights, Camera, Action Figure For ‘Aliens’ James Cameron

Last year marked the 30th anniversary of James Cameron’s fan-favorite xenomorphic sequel, Aliens. While NECA has been steadfast in its coverage of the Alien franchise, giving fans the most collectibles and figures encompassing nearly every film in the series. Though there are still some characters from Aliens NECA hasn’t been able to procure the rights for, this week the New Jersey company delivered one of the biggest surprises for the license yet. For the first time in history, James Cameron is getting an action figure.

Before this week, James Cameron had been very cagey with his likeness. It’s not clear how many different attempts at action figures had been made in the past, but all that matters is that the deal is finally done. Perhaps fellow director Quentin Tarantino offered his approval of working with NECA after he got his own Hateful Eight figure a few years ago. Perhaps James just knew it was time to give the fans what they've always wanted: him as a Colonial Marine.

Based on Cameron's appearance in the mid-‘80s while shooting Aliens, NECA’s figure puts the flop-haired, bearded portrait of one of cinema’s most bankable directors atop its familiar Colonial Marine body. With 25 points of articulation, James, the toy, will be able to get almost any shot he can imagine with the included viewfinder James, the human, actually used when filming. He’ll also include the signature M41A pulse rifle, a pistol, motion tracker and a replica clapboard.

To give Cameron, the figure, just as much personality as the rest of the Colonial Marines, his armor’s also been decked out in full camo, along with his name stenciled across the breastplate. Patches on his arms include a Canadian flag, the Lightstorm logo, and a special Pandora planet insignia to wink at Cameron’s, the living person, latest sci-fi franchise, Avatar.

James Cameron is only the second non-actor to be included in the Aliens toy line as a Colonial Marine. Previously, NECA posthumously honored sculptor Kyle Windrix’s brother Chris with his very own action figure.

The NECA James Cameron Aliens action figure is due out in November, and is available for pre-order now for $22.99.
