Square-Enix is set to release Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix later this year. Unfortunately, the development process has been a little bit more difficult because some of the assets from the original game have been lost.

According to IGN, Kingdom Hearts director Tetsuya Nomura revealed the assets were missing during a Square-Enix E3 2013 video. Nomura said, "Kingdom Hearts 1 was created a long, long time ago, so actually the original data was missing already. It was lost, so we had to research, and we had to dig out from the actual game what was available and recreate everything for HD. We had to recreate all the graphics and it was actually not that easy."

The loss of these assets meant that the team basically had to rebuild the game from scratch, which is a hefty undertaking indeed. Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix will be released on Sept. 10 for PlayStation 3.
