PlayStation ‘Powers’ TV Series Goes Behind the Scenes in 8-Minute Preview

We’re admittedly intrigued to see what Sony comes up with for its first PlayStation original TV series, adapting Brian Michael Bendis’ revered superhero comic Powers. We’ve seen the trailer and a few photos, but the latest eight-minute preview goes behind-the-scenes to deliver our most comprehensive look at the world of Powers before its March 10 debut.

Tracing the history of the comic, its TV casting process, and packed with new footage, our latest look at PlayStation’s Powers series shows off plenty of the titular effects work, also giving insight into a world of super-powered citizens running amok for their own ends. In addition to interviews with the starry cast, you’ll also get an inside look at the extensive costuming and production, and even intel on a few artistic Easter eggs to look out for.

Sony’s ‘Powers’ will see Chappie star Sharlto Copley as Christian Walker, a once-powerful superhero who lost his abilities fighting a supervillain, and since works with the “Powers” department in law enforcement alongside newbie Deena Pilgrim (Susan Heyward). Genre favorite Michelle Forbes (Orphan Black) will play the role of faded superhero Retro Girl, alongside Eddie Izzard and Game of Thrones star Noah Taylor’s supervillain roles, and Olesya Rulin’s teenage hero Calista.

The series will also feature The Killing star Max Fowler as Krispin Stockley, son to Christian Walker’s murdered partner and Breaking Bad player Adam Godley as the bookish, respectful and secretive Captain Cross. For those unfamiliar with Powers, here’s how Sony describes the superhero series based on Brian Michael Bendis’ work:

“Powers” is an edgy dramatic series that follows the lives of two homicide detectives, Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim, who are assigned to investigate cases involving people with superhuman abilities, referred to as Powers. Set amidst today’s paparazzi culture, “Powers” asks the questions, what if the world was full of superheroes who aren’t actually heroic at all? What if all that power was just one more excuse for mischief, mayhem, murder, and endorsement deals?

Enter the men and women of the Powers Division, the brave people in charge of protecting humans like us and keeping the peace with these over-paid, commercialized, god-like men and women who glide through the sky imposing their power over the mortals who both worship and fear them.

In its first two (of 10) episodes written by executive producer Charlie Huston and directed by David Slade, Powers sees Circle of Confusion return to executive produce alongside co-creators Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming. Michael Dinner will act as executive producer and director, with Huston and Falling Skies boss Remi Aubuchon executive producing under showrunners Bendis and Huston.

The first three episodes of PlayStation’s Powers will debut on March 10, with subsequent episodes arriving each Tuesday.
