‘Rick and Morty’ Got McDonald’s to Respond to ‘Mulan’ Sauce Gag
Amid the delightful chaos of Rick and Morty Season 3 releasing its long-awaited premiere on April Fools’, “The Rickshank Redemption” set off another craze: McDonald’s Mulan-themed Szechuan dipping sauce. Within hours, Rick and Morty fans were petitioning the fast-food chain to resurrect the McNugget dip, and McDonald’s itself responded in kind.
You’re warned of full spoilers for the Rick and Morty Season 3 premiere (which will replay at 10:00 P.M. every night this week on Adult Swim), but a recurring gag from the episode saw Rick obsessing over the 1998 McDonald’s menu item, which lasted only as long as the animated Mulan’s Disney promotion. Fans quickly joined the gag by urging McDonald’s to bring back the sauce, and the restaurant’s official Twitter actually acknowledged them:
That said, the Rick and Morty account was quick to point out the awkward-sounding riff on its “Wubba Lubba Dub Dub” quote:
Granted, McDonald’s isn’t about to bring back an entire line of sauce over an Adult Swim cartoon, but many have pointed out the possibility of a live-action Mulan film garnering a similar promotional tie-in. Maybe we drop the Chinese food McNugget packaging, and gong commercial, though.
In any case, Rick and Morty Season 3 will officially debut this summer, leaving plenty of room to continue Rick’s endless quest for that Mulan McNugget sauce. Watch the latest teasers below.
