The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman has enough to do, between managing the AMC horror smash and shepherding its still-untitled spinoff, but what’s a few more bodies on the pile? Cinemax has officially granted Kirkman his second comic-adapted TV series, conjuring a formal series order for exorcism drama Outcast.

Adapted from Skybound comics and greenlit for 10 episodes at an unknown premiere date, Cinemax’s Outcast features Gone Girl star Patrick Fugit in the role of Kyle Barnes, a young man plagued by possession since childhood. Kyle sets out to find answers, in the process uncovering something that could end all life on Earth as we know it.

Also among the cast is Philip Glenister in the hard-drinking, hard-gambling role of Reverend Anderson, a West Virginian evangelical preacher who believes himself soldier in God’s holy war against evil, as well as Annabelle star Gabriel Bateman as a young boy who appears to be possessed by a demon and has a mysterious connection to Kyle.

The Guest and You’re Next helmer Adam Wingard will direct the pilot episode of Robert Kirkman’s Outcast, while Cinemax said of the pickup:

We are thrilled to be in business with Robert Kirkman, a visionary talent who has the unique ability to tap into today’s zeitgeist, making him a perfect fit for the newly expanded Cinemax roster.

Supernatural series have become a tougher and tougher sell in a crowded landscape these days, but will Cinemax and Robert Kirkman’s Outcast earn its 10-episode order?
