Ever since he took over as the director on the standalone Han Solo movie, Ron Howard has been endlessly toying with Star Wars fans on social media. From set photos suggesting new characters to behind-the-scene looks at hyperspace travel, Howard seems to be doing his best to pivot the narrative surrounding Disney‘s latest Star Wars prequel from, “Wow, I can’t believe they fired those directors!” to “Wow, I can’t believe Ron Howard is being such a jerk on Instagram!” Seriously, Ron, would it kill you to show something up close for once?

And while these brand new videos (via Heroic Hollywood) are more of the same, they at least give us a chance to see little snippets of the Star Wars universe in action. Plus, doesn’t everyone immediately want an R2 unit-shaped barbecue in their backyard? I know I do.

All joking aside, though, Howard is doing a tremendous job of bringing some positivity back to this particular Star Wars movie. It’s been a while since Disney wasn’t in control of the narrative around a film; for the past decade, most of their Marvel adaptations have avoided controversy and entered theaters riding a tidal wave of hype. Having to be reactive instead of proactive regarding Han Solo is new territory for them, and they’re clearly benefitting from having an experienced filmmaker and producer like Howard back in the director’s chair. He’ll be a fine craftsman, of course, but Howard’s best contribution to the movie is moving past the blind items and getting everyone to think about the Star Wars universe again. Add Social Media Manager to the list of things Howard has excelled at in his career, I guess.

Han Solo will star Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge. The film is still scheduled to make the jump into theaters on May 25, 2018.
