‘Star Trek Beyond’ Wraps Filming With Simon Pegg in a New Set Photo
Star Trek Beyond had a bit of a bumpy road before it finally went into production with Justin Lin in the director’s chair and Simon Pegg putting in overtime as both actor and co-screenwriter. But these guys really turned it around, as evidenced in part by their series of charming charity videos. The latest photo update from the set confirms that the new Trek sequel has officially wrapped production, and we can begin counting the days until the film hits theaters next summer.
This photo of Simon Pegg and co-writer Doug Jung was posted to Pegg’s official Twitter page (which he no longer runs himself):
And…it looks like Pegg wore the wrong hat on the final day of filming because yup, that is a Star Wars: The Force Awakens hat. As seen in the behind the scenes footage from Comic-Con this summer, Pegg had a small role in The Force Awakens, though you shouldn’t count on being able to pick him out of a crowd of extras since it looks like his body was covered head-to-toe in an alien costume.
As for Star Trek Beyond, we still don’t know anything about the film’s plot, though Pegg has said that we can expect the new sequel to be more in keeping with the adventurous spirit of the classic TV series, and that he’s written an original villain role for Idris Elba.
Elba and Pegg join returning cast members Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Anton Yelchin, John Cho and Karl Urban along with newcomer Sofia Boutella for Star Trek Beyond, which hits theaters on July 22, 2016. Expect to see the first teaser arrive in the next few months.
