Soderbergh’s ‘Girlfriend Experience’ TV Series Gets First Trailer
Seriously, does Steven Soderbergh ever sleep? In between directing episodes of Cinemax’s The Knick, the Magic Mike director apparently had time to re-envision The Girlfriend Experience as a new Starz series debuting in 2016. Anyway, here’s the first sexy trailer, chock full of … you know. Sexy things. Girlfriend things.
For those unaware of the adaptation, Starz’s “Anthology Series” The Girlfriend Experience follows Christine Reade (Riley Keough), a second year student at Chicago-Burnham Law School and a new intern at the prestigious firm of Kirkland & Allen. Working hard to establish herself at the firm, her focus quickly shifts when a classmate introduces her to the world of transactional relationships. Known as GFEs, they are women who provide “The Girlfriend Experience”—emotional and sexual relationships at a very high price. Juggling two very different lives, Christine quickly finds herself drawn into the GFE world, attracted to the rush of control and intimacy.
The series also stars 24 alum Mary Lynn Rajskub, Boardwalk Empire breakout Paul Sparks, as well as House of Cards player Kate Lyn Sheil. Premiering in 2016, the 13-episode series was co-created and written by Lodge Kerrigan and Amy Seimetz, and executive produced by Steven Soderbergh, Philip Fleishman, Gary Marcus and Jeff Cuban.
The original film arrived in 2009, directed by Soderbergh and starring then-adult film actress Sasha Grey. You can check out the Starz official trailer for The Girlfriend Experience above, ahead of its 2016 premiere, but really, has anyone checked on Soderbergh’s caffeine reserves?
