And like that, ‘Suicide Squad’ has seemingly added another big name to its already impressive ensemble. According to the latest rumor, two-time Academy Award nominee and ‘How to Get Away With Murder’ star Viola Davis has nabbed the role of Amanda Waller in David Ayer’s upcoming supervillain team-up film. We’ll see how the actual movie shakes out in a little under two years, but this may very well be the craziest cast ever assembled for a comic book adaptation.

The news comes from Latino Review, whose superhero movie scoops have frequently checked out in the past. Still, treat this as unconfirmed until Warner Bros. makes an official announcement.

This casting isn’t too surprising, though. Davis’ name has been thrown around a lot as a frontrunner for this role, especially since there was no way in hell the studio was actually going to get their number one choice, Oprah Winfrey. As nutty as that casting would have been, Davis feels like a much better choice. In addition to being an astounding actress who is just going to own the screen as an anti-hero like Amanda Waller, she doesn’t carry the same baggage as Winfrey. She’ll be able to slip into the character and vanish.

Waller, a longtime DC Comics character who has also popped up in movies like ‘Green Lantern’ and TV shows like ‘Smallville,’ is a tough government agent with a knack for cutting through bureaucracy and superheroes alike. She’s usually the one running the Suicide Squad, a team of villains tasked with going on missions for the government, and her no-nonsense style has made her a fan favorite. After all, not many ordinary people can win a war of wills against the god-like denizens of the DC universe.

She joins a cast that already includes Will Smith, Jared Leto, Tom Hardy, Jai Courtney, Margot Robbie, and Carla Delevingne. The film itself will start production early next year for a August 5, 2016 release date.
