Bernthal, who will be starring as the Punisher in his upcoming Netflix spinoff series, has just wrapped a role for Steve McQueen’s heist thriller Widows. Not only that, he’s officially joined up with Damien Chazelle’s Neil Armstrong biopic First Man, alongside Ryan Gosling and Kyle Chandler.

Leave it to Frank Castle to work in stealth when the occasion calls. A series of cryptic tweets from The Punisher Twitter account offered a Morse Code clue for fans, and the results may reveal all thirteen episodes from the coming spinoff.

The Defenders will bring us the spectacle of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist united, so it came as little surprise Jon Bernthal’s Punisher would stick to his spinoff for now. Marvel isn’t certain how, or when a second Defenders season might take place, but The Punisher may not become a team player then, either.

Comic-Con may belong to The Defenders, but you knew The Punisher would steal the spotlight at some point. Jon Bernthal himself showed up to debut the Daredevil spinoff’s first footage, in the process teasing an international bloodbath.

I kind of liked The Accountant. It was goofy, sure, but it had a kind of absurd purity as well. It “has a bit more interesting stuff creeping around its edges than a lot of the superhero movies based on established properties,” I wrote in my review for ScreenCrush. The mythology was engrossing, and the action scenes were surprisingly good. If The Accountant had come out 10 years ago, before I had kids and I gave up all my free time forever, I could easy envision a scenario where I watched it over and over on basic cable. It’s the perfect TNT movie.

Marvel’s Punisher spinoff is still something of a mystery; given an ambiguous 2017 release date around The Defenders, without any confirmation of episode order. At the very least, we may now have a look at the cast and key art, courtesy of a new Quesada-style poster.

Like Daredevil before him, Jon Bernthal’s Punisher took an entire season to finally suit up in his classic comic costume.
