Edward James Olmos is doing double-duty in the sci-fi genre. On top of reprising his Blade Runner character for Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming sequel, the Battlestar Galactica will get back into his military sci-fi roots with the new Predator.
One of our most anticipated upcoming films is The Predator, Shane Black’s sorta-sequel to the ’80s sci-fi action classic, which boasts a pretty impressive cast — including Trevante Rhodes, one of the breakout stars of recent Best Picture Oscar winner Moonlight. (It feels good to type that.) Black has been keeping fans up to date with production on the sequel via his social media accounts, and his latest update from the set comes in the form of a new photo featuring the cast (or some of them), and our first look at Alfie Allen and Thomas Jane.
Sometime over the last couple of months, writer-director Shane Black slipped onto Twitter without very many people noticing. While admittedly a bit of a neophyte when it comes to social media, Black has immediately grasped the most important aspects of the platform. You know, sharing funny tweets, complaining about politicians, taking pictures of his dogs, and, oh yeah, throwing out exclusive content from the set of his long-anticipated Predator sequel. You know, just normal, everyday Twitter stuff.
Ever since the news broke that Shane Black was making The Predator, many of us wondered what exactly we were supposed to call it. It’s not a reboot, because it features new characters in a new environment, and it’s not exactly a sequel either, since none of the characters from the original seem to be returning. Some thought Arnold Schwarzenegger would cameo to tie this movie in with the rest, but it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen.
We know one thing, Shane Black‘s The Predator will have some serious cuteness. Room star Jacob Tremblay is the latest actor to join the sci-fi film, according to The Hollywood Reporter, and this movie is only sounding better and better.
In terms of casts, Shane Black’s The Predator might take the Oscar for Most Anticipated Team-Up of Fantastic Actors in an Action Movie. It already has Olivia Munn, Moonlight’s Trevante Rhodes, Keegan-Michael Key, Boyd Holbrook, and Sterling K. Brown, and now it’s poised to add another: none other than the Punisher himself, Thomas Jane.
The man is unstoppable. After his starring turns in American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson and This Is Us, Sterling K. Brown was cast in Marvel’s Black Panther as an entirely new character. Now, he’s currently in talks to join another franchise: Shane Black’s The Predator.
It looks like Shane Black is in the business of one-upping himself with the cast of The Predator — following yesterday’s report on the casting of Moonlight star Trevante Rhodes, today brings word of yet another exciting addition to the growing ensemble: Keegan-Michael Key. It’s a big week for Key, who also just reprised his Key & Peele character Luther, the angry Obama translator, for an episode of The Daily Show.
It’s been a minute since we last heard anything new about Shane Black’s upcoming Predator sequel, but today’s exciting update was easily worth the wait. Trevante Rhodes, star of the critically acclaimed awards season favorite Moonlight, is gearing up to hunt down everyone’s favorite alien warrior, as the actor has signed on to star opposite Narcos’ Boyd Holbrook and Olivia Munn in the sequel, simply titled The Predator.
