Laura Linney, the three-time Oscar nominated star of movies like Mystic River, Kinsey, and The Savages, has taken on her most challenging role yet: not appearing completely and totally disinterested in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2. Exactly who Linney is playing in the upcoming sequel is still a mystery, but we can probably assume that the role won’t ask very much of her and she’ll ultimately class up the whole joint just by showing up. Like Stanley Tucci in Transformers: Age of Extinction, we cannot deny a great actor a paycheck gig every now and again.

The news of Linney’s casting comes to us via The Hollywood Reporter.

The sequel to last year’s very successful (and genuinely terrible) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles recently began filming with returning cast members Megan Fox and Will Arnett, so the late addition of Linney suggests that her role probably won’t be very large. However, the mere fact that they went after a recognizable face in the first place suggests that it will be a role of some importance. Maybe a villain of some kind?

To be fair to everyone involved, this isn’t the first time Linney has lent her acting expertise to a big, dumb blockbuster. Remember Congo, where the climax involved Linney’s character using a diamond-powered laser gun to murder a tribe of long-lost albino apes in the middle of an exploding volcano? Nothing in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 will be as bad (or as memorable) as that.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, which also stars Tyler Perry and Arrow’s Stephen Amell, is set for a June 3, 2016 release date. Dave Green, the director of the charming Earth to Echo, is in the director’s seat this time.
