While many on the current stage know 'The Walking Dead's executive producer Gale Ann Hurd as a major force behind the top-rated AMC zombie killer series, not all know that her extensive resume goes as far back as producing such genre staples as 'The Terminator,' 'Alien' and 'The Abyss.' 'The Walking Dead' may be a genre-hopping show, but now Hurd is headed back to hard sci-fi with new USA drama 'Horizon,' a World War 2-set tale of aliens and intrigue that brings genre back to the network. So what's it all about?

'The Walking Dead' isn't the only sci-fi series on executive producer Gale Ann Hurd's plate anymore. According to Deadline, the former wife to James Cameron and prolific producer has been USA-greenlit for a pilot order of sci-fi series 'Horizon,' to be written and co-executive produced by Bridget Tyler ('Burn Notice').

Set at the peak of World War 2, 'Horizon' follows an FBI secretary who finds out that her husband may have been killed in a battle with a spaceship while in the South Pacific, and in her obsessive investigation inadvertently becomes “the only person standing between Earth and an alien invasion.”.

“Horizon is our first genre piece since 'The 4400' and the first ever period drama for the network,” said network co-presidents Jeff Wachtel and Chris McCumber. “This signals the next step in the evolution of our programming brand.”

Hurd will still continue her duties with 'The Walking Dead,' but what say you? Would you tune in for 'Horizon,' knowing what else Gale Ann Hurd has brought to sci-fi?
