Dear White People and Creed breakout star Tessa Thompson’s casting in Thor: Ragnarok was just announced this week, and while many have speculated about her potential role, a new rumor may prove some of that speculation correct. Thompson may have not only been cast as a badass superhero, but one that we’ll see in future MCU films, making her addition to Ragnarok doubly exciting.

According to Latino-Review (which has had a pretty good track record with reports on the third Thor film), Thompson is playing none other than Valkyrie, an Asgardian warrior personally selected by Odin to lead the Valkyrior. Also known as Brunnhilde, Valkyrie and her Asgardian clan are assigned the task of visiting battlefields and ushering the fallen into Valhalla. The report also notes that we may very well see Valkyrie in future Marvel films — specifically Avengers: Infinity War.

Rumors have persisted for some time that Thompson’s co-star Cate Blanchett is playing the film’s villain, Hela, who could also stand in as the embodiment of Death — a character who shared an important arc with Thanos in the comics. If true, Thompson playing Valkyrie fits well with reports of Blanchett as Hela / Death, and you can sort of see how all of this is starting to take shape.

Given the ending of Thor: The Dark World, Odin’s involvement with assigning Brunnilde as Valkyrie is particularly curious. Last we left the Asgardian throne, Loki was impersonating his dear old adopted dad. The mischievous villain will reportedly be working alongside Blanchett’s baddie in the sequel, so perhaps the two are colluding to use Valkyrie for their own personal gain — just a thought.

Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows) is directing the new sequel, which features the return of Chris Hemsworth as the mighty superhero, Tom Hiddleston as Loki and Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk. Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters on November 3, 2017.
