Found footage has become a near default setting for horror movies these days, but it looks like 'The Apparition' couldn't commit fully to that format - at least it seems that way from the first trailer. The film stars Ashley Greene, Sebastian Stan, and Tom Felton. Take a look...

The premise is relatively clever. The characters must pretend to believe in something that they then will into existence. They think therefore it is. But it's doubtful that the film dabbles in Descartes, so much as sets up ghosts and then has them do creepy crawly things until there's less cast members than they started with.

We're curious about the career of Ashley Greene. She launched out of the 'Twilight' films into semi-stardom, but it's hard to know if she's much more than a pretty face at this point. This is the sort of role that tends to require a lot of whimpering and screaming, but if she can make it work then maybe she's more than just a Jessica Alba-type.

The film comes out August 24, and with a film like this that usually means they don't think they have a blockbuster, but they hope to make some coins on bored teenagers and twi-hards. And with a PG-13 rating, that looks like the game plan.
