After 'X-Force' comic creator Robert Liefeld revealed that 20th Century Fox had a film adaptation of his series "in development," word was that some form of announcement would be made during next week's Comic-Con convention in San Diego. Well, Christmas has come a bit early.

According to THR, 'Kick-Ass 2' director and writer Jeff Wadlow has been hired to write the script for the 'X-Force' movie and also has his eye on the director's seat, while Lauren Shuller Donner, a longtime producer for the 'X-Men' movie franchise, is set to produce.

Liefeld's 'X-Force' featured Cable, the son of Cyclops and Jean Grey/Phoenix from an alternate future, Deadpool, Cannonball, Warpath and other characters introduced in the 'New Mutants' comics. As the years progressed towards 'Uncanny X-Force,' more characters, such as Psylocke, Wolverine and Archangel, were added.

A Deadpool movie, starring Ryan Reynolds, has had issues getting off the ground for some time, so perhaps 'X-Force' is a possible solution to including the "Merc with a Mouth" in another 'X-Men' film. With Hugh Jackman's future involvement as Wolverine up in the air as well, the movie could also be an opportunity to introduce either a new actor in the part or provide the necessary creative spin to pique Jackman's interest in returning.

We previously reported that Fox has already claimed the online domain name XForceMovie.com, which now seems to be confirmed for this 'X-Men' spinoff. We're expected to learn more from Comic-Con 2013, which will also feature Bryan Singer's highly anticipated 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' and James Mangold's 'The Wolverine.'
