Joe Kelly’s critically acclaimed graphic novel I Kill Giants is being developed into a movie by producer Chris Columbus, and it’s just attracted a star from another major comic book adaptation — Guardians of the Galaxy’s Zoe Saldana has signed on to play a leading role in the film from director Anders Walter, who won an Oscar in 2014 for his short film Helium.

The Wrap reports that Saldana will star alongside newcomer Madison Wolfe in I Kill Giants, with Wolfe playing the lead role of a young outcast girl named Barbara, and Saldana playing her helpful school psychologist, Mrs. Molle. Saldana is no stranger to graphic novel adaptations, having starred in both Guardians of the Galaxy and The Losers.

I Kill Giants centers on Barbara, a school misfit who fights monsters both real and imaginary in her daily life. With the help of Mrs. Molle, Barbara confronts the fears and entities that are both psychological and tangible. Wolfe, who also appears in the upcoming films Trumbo and Joy, won the role following a nationwide casting search that attracted over 500 girls.

Walter is best known for his Oscar-winning short film Helium, and is making his feature directorial debut on I Kill Giants. Saldana can be seen next reprising her role as Uhura in Star Trek Beyond, and has signed on to star in James Cameron’s Avatar sequels.
