'American Horror Story' didn't begin its original run with series star Jessica Lange as the centerpiece, thought the actress quickly emerged as the dominant force of the franchise through 'Asylum' and now 'Coven.' The monster ratings for FX's Ryan Murphy horror drama all-but-assure a fourth season in place, but will Lange depart the series after that?

According to Lange herself in a a recent chat with BuzzFeed, 4 may end up the lucky number for the revered character actress after all. “I’ll do one more season,” the Emmy and Golden Globe winning actress said of her work on the series following 'American Horror Story: Coven.' “That’ll be it."

Previously, showrunner and creator Ryan Murphy seemed more optimistic about Lange's involvement in future incarnations of 'American Horror Story,' telling The Hollywood Reporter:

Every year, she says, "OK, that's my last one." But she's already committed to the fourth series. I can see American Horror Story going 10 years, 12 years, 15 years. I think it's limitless because it re-energizes every year, and I would love for Jessica Lange to be part of it every year.

And while Murphy and Lange both remain tight-lipped about the subject of 'American Horror Story' season 4, Murphy has previously revealed that we'll likely see the concept set up within the final frame of 'Coven,' additionally teasing of Lange that “Jessica Lange has always wanted to play a Marlene Dietrich figure, and now she gets to.”
