Here, take this sizable grain of salt because you’ll need it for today’s latest rumor. Although Warner Bros. only recently hired The Conjuring 2 screenwriter David Leslie Johnson to re-team with director James Wan on Aquaman, a new report suggests that we may already know the identity of the film’s main villain — and it’s probably not who you were expecting.

Those familiar with the Aquaman comics most likely assumed that the King of the Seven Seas would battle longtime nemesis Black Manta in his solo movie, but according to JoBlo, that’s incorrect. The site claims that Jason Momoa’s aquatic superhero will fight Ocean Master, aka Orm Marius, aka Aquaman’s half-brother, with the plot reportedly “reminiscent of the comic struggles of the duo in a brother-vs-brother fight for the throne of Atlantis.” Sounds a bit like DC / WB’s own version of Thor, right?

Keep in mind, it’s still super early in the screenwriting process and if this rumor is correct, it’s subject to change. Previous rumors heavily suggested the presence of Doomsday in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, while more recent reports have claimed the villain is no longer in the film — though according to at least a couple of people who read the original script, he was originally included in an earlier draft of the script.

In addition to the potential Aquaman villain, there’s a bit of info in JoBlo’s article about Mera, the superhero’s leading lady. Earlier this month, Heroic Hollywood described her character as the “Khaleesi of the Sea,” and reported that she may make her debut in Justice League: Part One. The latest rumor goes a step further, claiming that WB is casting against type, looking for a woman of color to portray Mera, who was typically presented as a white woman with red hair in the comics. And rather than exist as a mere romantic interest or supporting character, Mera will reportedly be just as badass as Momoa’s Aquaman, with a comparison being drawn to Furiosa’s role in Mad Max: Fury Road.

Momoa will make his DCU debut in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice on March 25, 2016, followed by his solo outing in the Aquaman movie, which arrives on July 27, 2018.
