The past year has seen an exponential rise in comic book TV shows, already on air with the likes of 'The Flash,' 'Gotham' and 'Constantine,' with 'Supergirl,' 'Daredevil' and many more to follow, but the latest comic series from producer Greg Berlanti is decidedly less super. Prepare for Archie, Jughead, Betty, Veronica and more to get their own live-action series, as FOX begins prepping its new 'Riverdale' drama!

Per Deadline, 'Arrow' producer Berlanti has begun developing with Warner Bros. a FOX series based on the Archie Comics characters, for now given a a script deal plus penalty, should it not go to pilot. Named for the town where the Archie Comics characters live, 'Riverdale' will arrive as a modern "subversive" take on Archie, Betty, Veronica, and friends, "exploring the surreality of small-town life…the darkness and weirdness bubbling beneath Riverdale’s wholesome facade."

In addition to Archie Andrews, girl-next-door Betty Cooper, and rich socialite Veronica Lodge, the series would also include the entire library of characters from the comics, including Reggie Mantle, Jughead Jones, noted gay character Kevin Keller, and potentially even Josie and the Pussycats. The pilot will be written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Chief Creative Officer of Archie Comics, and former staff for FOX's 'Glee' and HBO's 'Looking.'

Well, alright then. Comic book TV series really are all the rage, whether superpowered or not, but what do you think? Would you watch an hourlong FOX adaptation of Archie Comics?
