A&E 'Psycho' prequel 'Bates Motel' checked into Comic-Con 2013 for the first time this past week, though the cast and creators had surprisingly few fresh details from the 2014 season to offer up. That all changes today, as the first of three major new roles for 'Bates Motel' season 2 has been announced to be filled by 'Alias' alum Michael Vartan. So, what special relationship does Vartan's character have to Norma Bates (Vera Farmiga)?

According to TVLine, Vartan will take the recurring season 2 role of George, a charming divorcee who catches Norma’s eye. Granted, the last relationship the Bates matriarch engaged in led to a corpse in her bed and a town-wide scandal, but hey, plenty of other fish, right?

Vartan is the first of three major roles to be filled in the second season, alongside a new female friend for Norma and her estranged, incestuous brother. “We would be remiss if we didn’t meet some other members of the Bates family,” said series creator and former ‘LOST‘ showrunner Carlton Cuse previously. Nestor Carbonell’s mysterious Sheriff Romero will also receive a bigger spotlight in ‘Bates Motel’ season 2, as the show will cover more of his home life, and the identity of Dylan Massett’s father may come to light as well.

We'll bring you the latest on 'Bates Motel' season 2 as it goes into production next week, but what say you? Are you excited to see the cast of characters for the Norman Bates prequel series expand?
