'Beetlejuice 2': Tim Burton in Talks to Direct Michael KeatonNick Romano |
Apparently if Tim Burton says 'Beetlejuice 2' enough times, it'll actually happen ...
Rumors have long been circling about a potential 'Beetlejuice 2,' most of them coming from the original director, who's been vocal about a sequel. Well, as crazy as it might sound, Burton is actually in talks now to join the project for Warner Bros.
While The Schmoes Know podcast reported the news late last week, The Wrap has since confirmed that the 'Frankenweenie' helmer is in discussions with Warner Bros., the same studio that produced the original and his disastrous 'Dark Shadows' with Johnny Depp. Michael Keaton, who's come back to the limelight thanks to roles in the upcoming 'RoboCop' remake and the Aaron Paul-led 'Need for Speed,' is expected to return as the eccentric, black-and-white-striped ghost.
However, 'Beetlejuice 2' will probably not be Burton's next project, which will most likely be Fox's 'Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children' instead, despite recent chatter. That film is scheduled for release on July 15, 2014. The Geffen Company, which produced the 1988 original, is on board 'Beetlejuice 2.' Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg of KatzSmith Productions wrote the script and are producing, as well.
Burton's original starred Gina Davis and Alec Baldwin as a recently deceased couple who haunt their former home. To scare away the new inhabitants (Catharine O'Hara, Jeffrey Jones and Winona Ryder), they enlist the help of Beetlejuice (Keaton), a "bio-exorcist" from the underworld.
What do you think of 'Beetlejuice 2' with Burton and Keaton? Who else from the first film, if any, should return? Give us your thoughts in the comments.
