Cameron Crowe’s Showtime ‘Roadies’ Picks Up Luke Wilson and Imogen Poots
Over the summer Showtime committed to a pilot order for ‘Almost Famous’ creator Cameron Crowe‘s new concert industry dramedy ‘Roadies,’ alongside Bad Robot and executive producer J.J. Abrams, though we haven’t heard much since. Now, the pilot has reportedly set sights on Luke Wilson and Imogen Poots for two of its leading characters, but who might they play?
As revealed by The Wrap (along with yesterday’s ‘Fargo’ season 2 castings), Wilson and Poots’ characters are being kept under wraps for the moment, as neither has officially signed on the dotted line. Oscar-winner Crowe will both write and direct the hourlong pilot (subsequent episodes would be in half-hours) for ‘Roadies,’ which follows a successful rock tour told through the vantage point of the crew members working behind the scenes.
In addition to Abrams executive producing, ‘My So Called Life’'s Winnie Holzman will also produce the long-developing comedy. Back during the original announcement, Crowe said of the pilot pickup:
I love that we’re finally doing Roadies. J.J. and I have been talking about it for some time. We’re fans of crews, those workers up on the rigging towers, or walking feverishly with eight phones on their belt. Those quietly devoted people live huge lives, they’re often the real keepers of the flame. So happy to also be telling these stories with Showtime, and also with one of my very favorite writer-producers ever, Winnie Holzman. Let’s get this show on the road.
So, what say you? Could Crowe strike the same ‘Almost Famous’ chords with his new Showtime series? What would you make of Luke Wilson or Imogen Poots in the lead? Give us your thoughts on Showtime’s ‘Roadies’ in the comments!
