Earlier today we learned that Captain Marvel will no longer be the first female superhero credited in a Marvel movie title, as Wasp will be given a co-credit in the Ant-Man sequel, titled Ant-Man and the Wasp. The announcement of that film switched up Marvel’s schedule a bit, with Black Panther hitting theaters a little earlier, and Captain Marvel now arriving in 2019. We have a little under four years before we see this highly-anticipated hero in her own solo film, but co-screenwriter Meg LeFauve has opened up (just a tiny bit) about her plans for the character.

LeFauve was recently promoting Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur, which she also wrote, when she spoke with Collider briefly about the excitement of working on Captain Marvel, which she’s writing with Guardians of the Galaxy co-writer Nicole Perlman:

Yeah, we haven’t started yet! We have not started yet. We just got the phone call to come over to Marvel. But for me personally, the wonderful thing about her and the challenge of her is going to be that she’s a female superhero. And that isawesome because she’s so powerful, and how hard is that going to be because she’s so powerful? We don’t want the Superman curse. “What’s her vulnerability?” is what we have to figure out.

The Superman comparison is apt, as Captain Marvel is — as LeFauve notes — an incredibly powerful hero, so the interesting aspect will be how they create a vulnerability for her that makes sense not only for her personally, but in the larger context of the MCU. Each character has their unique strengths and weaknesses, which is part of the appeal of seeing them all work together as a unit as well as in their individual stories.

Captain Marvel’s new release date is March 8, 2019.
