Daredevil Season 2 production in NYC naturally has fans in a tizzy, while recent and upcoming announcements eagerly tease the 2016 future of Marvel’s first Defender. One recent suggestion making the rounds however, must be stopped. No, Daredevil is not teasing that Melvin Potter will go full “Gladiator” in Season 2, even though he certainly still could. Confused? Let us explain.

Speculation started when Daredevil‘s official Twitter account tweeted out the below image, clearly highlighting the buzzsaw belonging to Melvin Potter (Matt Gerald), as briefly utilized in the Netflix series itself, and evocative of Potter’s comic costume identity of “Gladiator.”

Over the last few days, outlet after outlet has taken the hint to signify (and thus report) that Gerald’s Melvin Potter might don the full Gladiator identity in Season 2, which, granted its plausibility, has absolutely nothing to do with the image posted to the show’s Twitter account. What most of these stories fail to realize (or at least acknowledge), is that Daredevil has been tweeting out focused images of specific character moments for weeks now.

Shall we expect a barrage of stories claiming Domenick Lombardi’s Bill Fisk will return for Season 2?

Perhaps a resurrected Wesley!

What about an expansive Season 2 arc for this little guy?

Is an Ant-Man cameo officially confirmed?

At best, this might offer some insight into all the confusion, the one Season 2 tease we can accept as fact:

And so on, and so forth. The bottom line, again, is that while the sweet-natured (if still deadly) Melvin Potter might well suit up in Season 2, outlets passing the above tweet off as a “tease” aren’t giving you the facts. There has been no confirmation of Matt Gerald reprising his role in the second season, nor are the many allusions glimpsed through his workshop any more than that, until proven otherwise.

In other words, Ben Urich would not approve.

Elsewhere of Daredevil Season 2, we know for sure that Elodie Yung has been cast in the role of Elektra, following Walking Dead alum Jon Bernthal’s Punisher, as well that Rosario Dawson has been confirmed to reprise her role as Claire Temple. Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez will take over showrunning duties from Spartacus vet Steven S. DeKnight, while recent Jason Statham / Bullseye reports listed Marvel’s Mister Fear and Spider-Man villain Mysterio as potential villains, though no confirmations have emerged.

Daredevil Season 2 remains in production on New York City streets, but who should we really hope to see when ol’ Hornhead returns in 2016?
