Possible 'Fantastic Four' Plot Details Tease an Alternate Origin Tale [UPDATE]Nick Romano |
With the 'Fantastic Four' script finally complete, actors and actresses are expected to come in and read for roles in Josh Trank's upcoming reboot by the end of the month. Miles Teller, one of said actors reportedly up for a part, suggested the director would take the film in a very different direction than what we've seen from Jessica Alba, Chris Evans and the rest. But seemingly new plot details have surfaced, hinting that this new take completely does away with the classic origin tale.
Let's take this with a grain of salt until we get further confirmation, but Acting Auditions, which features casting calls for prospective film actors, printed a potential plot summary of the new 'Fantastic Four' movie that might send some fans of the comic book series into a frenzy:
'The Fantastic Four’ will tell the story of two very young friends, Reed Richards and Ben Grimm. After an event transforms the boys, they find themselves empowered with bizarre new abilities. Reed becomes a scientific genius who can stretch, twist and re-shape his body to inhuman proportions. Ben becomes a monstrous, craggy humanoid with orange, rock-like skin and super strength. However, the two end up being owned by the government and used as weapons. But after they mature, two others with powers come into the picture – Sue Storm “The Invisible Girl” and Johnny Storm “The Human Torch.”
It was previously rumored that Trank, who directed the dark superheroes-go-bad 'Chronicle,' would be utilizing the 'Ultimate Fantastic Four' series as source material for his reboot, and this new description seems to fall more in line with that report. In addition, Acting Auditions claims that Michael B. Jordan, who also starred in Trank's 'Chronicle' and has been the rumored frontrunner for Johnny Storm for some time, has already been cast.
UPDATE: Director Josh Trank stated over Twitter that these plot details are not true:
Keep in mind, however, that Trank denied Miles Teller being in contention for a role, despite multiple sources and outlets stating otherwise. For now, we can consider this rumor debunked.
While we wait for more information on the film, we know that 'Game of Thrones' stars Kit Harington and Richard Madden, Saoirse Ronan of 'The Host,' Kate Mara of 'House of Cards' and Miles Teller of 'That Awkward Moment' are all expected to read for roles in the film. Production will begin later this year in preparation for a theatrical release on June 19, 2015.
