Aveline, the first female protagonist in Assassin's Creed, will see her story continue in exclusive content on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 when Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag arrives later this year.

Even though PS Vita title Assassin's Creed: Liberation takes place during a very different time than Black Flag, players will still be able to visit with Aveline thanks to advances in Animus (the device in the games which allows you to relive the lives of ancestors) technology. The details were shared with Joystiq by Black Flag's single-player game director Ashraf Ismail.

This isn't the first time the PlayStation has gotten exclusive content for Assassin's Creed games, but will be the first time a completely different character is the star. While Liberation wasn't an incredibly strong entry in the series, Aveline was an interesting character, and we're glad to see she hasn't been forgotten and that we'll get to partake in more of her adventures this fall.

What do you think of the news? Glad to see Aveline back as an add-on, or do you wish she got another game of her own?
