We’ve known for some time that The Flash would introduce a second (now third) speedster in Wally West, revealed last week in casting Keiynan Lonsdale, though the character’s familial relationship was left somewhat unclear. New showrunner insight teases the speedsters’ relationship, while Season 2 has also begun casting DC villain (or hero?) Doctor Light.

According to a TVLine conversation with Flash showrunner Gabrielle Stanton, we might not expect to see Wally West introduced as Iris’ nephew (as tended to be the case in comics, though the CW’s West family tree seems somewhat unclear). Remaining a bit cryptic, Stanton at least offered that the character’s relationship to The Flash would be well represented:

We are a doing our special Flash magic where we take a comic book character and give it just a little bit of a ‘Hmmm,’ so that you’re like, “Oh!” [Wally will be incorporated] in a really, really cool way… that I don’t think the audience will see coming. He will definitely have a very interesting and close relationship Team Flash.

Elsewhere, Stanton also revealed that the second season would eventually introduce the female DC comics iteration of Doctor Light, presumably Kimiyo Hoshi. Curiously, Cisco and Caitlin already referenced the more villainous male incarnation Arthur Light (and his weaponry) back in Arrow Season 2's “The Man Under the Hood,” even acknowledging him as a “psycho” former S.T.A.R. Labs employee, making the switch (and the new version’s hero/villain status) somewhat unclear.

Elsewhere, we know of The Flash Season 2 that The Messengers alum Shantel VanSanten will guest as DC character and Barry’s new love interest Patty Spivot, joining Masters of Sex alum Teddy Sears as Golden Age speedster Jay Garrick, former WWE wrestler Edge’s Atom Smasher, and Season 2 big bad Zoom. We’ll also see the returns of Gorilla Grodd, Captain Cold and Golden Glider (including their father), and likely others, while both Barry (and Jay!) have some spiffy new duds.

What other secrets and castings of The Flash Season 2 will emerge before its October 6 premiere? Will Barry become “The Man Who Saved Central City” or will one of the new heroes and villains beat him to it? Keep it here to find out!
