FOX's 'Gotham' TV Series: Bruce Wayne Casting Call Reveals New DetailsKevin Fitzpatrick |
Given how FOX's upcoming Batman prequel TV series 'Gotham' had been burning through casting announcements over the past week, we expected a young Bruce Wayne to emerge as the very last. And while we might meet our new Batman-in-training over the weekend, we at least have the casting call to determine what qualities 'Gotham''s Bruce Wayne will have.
Comic Book Therapy managed to obtain the official casting call for the series regular role of Bruce Wayne, confirming what we learned in January, that the character would have a strong presence in the series, even without donning the cape and cowl until its very end. It remains to be seen exactly how 'Gotham' could incorporate Bruce Wayne without the character hanging around Detective James Gordon (Ben McKenzie) at the police station all the time, but for now at least, here's what the tragedy-struck youth will embody:
11, son of Thomas and Martha Wayne. Dark haired, handsome, soulful, wise, strong willed. A kid with tragic gravitas…..SERIES REGULAR
So, pretty much a height-challenged Batman. We're not entirely up on our child actors of late, but who can you think of that might fit the bill?
In any case, FOX's ‘Gotham’ will explore “the origin stories of Commissioner James Gordon and the villains that made Gotham famous,” with its pilot supposedly featuring Gordon’s investigation of the murders of Thomas and Martha Wayne. The pilot will also be written and executive produced by ‘The Mentalist”s Bruno Heller, along with Warner Bros. Television, and directed by ‘Judge Dredd’ helmer Danny Cannon. It has been confirmed that ‘Gotham’ will not have any direct ties to Ben Affleck‘s take on the Dark Knight for ‘Man of Steel’ follow-up film ‘Batman vs. Superman‘ or The CW’s ‘Arrow‘ series.
Cast in known roles thus far are Ben McKenzie as James Gordon, Donal Logue as Detective Harvey Bullock, Robin Lord Taylor (‘The Walking Dead‘) as a young Oswald Cobblepot, Sean Pertwee (‘Elementary’) as Alfred Pennyworth, ‘Burn Notice‘ star Zabryna Guevara as Gordon’s GCPD boss Captain Essen, and Erin Richards as Gordon’s fiancée Barbara Kean.
Well, what do you think? Will Bruce Wayne's presence somewhat make up for a lack of cape and cowl? How might FOX's 'Gotham' show the caped crusader in a light we've never seen explored before?
